Meet Mrs. Mahoney- Welcome to fourth grade! We are going to have an exciting year at Gardner Elementary!
Teaching Experience: I received my teaching degree from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville in 1990. I received my Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction from National-LouisUniversity. My first year at Zahnow (1990-91) I worked as an aide in the library. There I had the opportunity to see and read many great children's books. I also did a lot of substituting throughout the building that year. I taught first grade in the same room at Zahnow for 15 years (beginning 1991-92 school year.) I love having the opportunity to expose students to books and reading, and hopefully creating a love for both. For the 2006-2007 school year I made a change and moved to second grade for the next four years.. Now I’m ready for my seventh year teaching fourth grade!
Personal: My husband, Sean, and I reside in Columbia with our many pets. We have three cats and four dogs (plus usually a foster from Helping Strays.) We have both lived in Columbia since our youth. I have a younger brother who is married and lives in Chatham, IL, and a sister living in St. Louis.
I am on the board of Helping Strays, the Humane Society of Monroe County, and can be found volunteering at the shelter on Sunday evenings. I like to travel during the summer. I also enjoy reading LOTS of books!
My email: Please feel free to call or email me with any questions, comments, or concerns you have regarding your child's education. I will gladly respond.
